Seal of Biliteracy Awards 2020

The Wilmington World Languages Department is very proud to recognize the exceptional efforts and achievements of our Class of 2020 World Language students.
This is the second year we are awarding the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary State Seal of Biliteracy and the State Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction! During our early piloting of the Seal of Biliteracy from 2016-2018 we proudly awarded 17 students with the original Seal of Biliteracy. Last year, we awarded our first State Seal of Biliteracy and our first two Biliteracy Achievement Awards, a total of 3 awards. This year, we were very proud to present this senior class with 14 awards!
This year we made Wilmington High School history twice! First, we awarded our first State Seals of Biliteracy with Distinction Awards! Second, we honored our first student to earn the Seal of Distinction in two languages: Bulgarian and Spanish!
The Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction is given in recognition of students who have tested and proven an Advanced-Low level of proficiency of a second language. This year we are awarded 6 of these:
Petya Stoeva - who has earned two Seals with Distinction in Bulgarian and Spanish
    Mansi Thakkar
    Evelyn Miller-Nuzzo
    Joshua D'Angelo
    Carolyn Roney
The Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy is given in recognition of students who have tested and proven an Intermediate-High level of a second language. This year we are awarded 6 of these:
    Gabriela Villalta
    Angelica Loshak
    Timothy Sun
    Ryan Packer
    Joshua Rainone
    Adriana Medina
The Language Opportunity Coalition, the group responsible for the law that recognized the Seal of Biliteracy in the State, created an award called the Biliteracy Achievement Award for students who have attained Intermediate-Mid Proficiency in a second language.
We are very proud to award the Biliteracy Achievement Award:
    Franceleesha Dornevil
    Paul O'Connell

The State Seal of Biliteracy is part of a National Movement now across 40 of the 50 states that recognizes the exceptional ability of students to be a part of a language and culture beyond English. We are immensely proud of all these students and all of the 19 students who continued their world language journey through their senior year of high school.
Congratulations to everyone and we wish you all the best!
